Hilltop Hawthorn (Etching)

Etching inspired by one of the many twisted old hawthorn trees in the Yorkshire Dales. They stand sentinel over limestone outcrops as faithful soldiers guarding ancient relics. Who knows how they got there, but there they stand, leaning away from the prevailing winds, hanging on for dear life with gnarly roots locked around the limestone outcrops. The stony, castellated hilltop in the foreground gives way to the Malhamdale fields and walls landscape and then the cloudy sky. My line etching was aquatinted to add the moody blue tones.
