Dad's Janet's Foss (Etching)

£ 125.00

A very unusual etching of Janet's Foss, in three colours. It shows the waterfall, surrounding rocks and the pool of water below. One of my collaborative etchings with my father, who has vascular dementia. I prepare the plate, he draws on it. I etch the plate and pull test prints, he tells me where he wants the tone. I aquatint the plate, stop out and etch to get the tones, then pull test prints. He told me in no uncertain terms that he wanted three colours on this one. So I hand-inked three colours at once, hand-wiped (carefully!) and hand-pulled prints from my plate to get these atmospheric images of the famous landmark waterfall in Malhamdale. We got Dad down to Janet's Foss from the Gordale Road, and just sat for a while, enjoying the view. His initial drawing was very different to mine, but equally valid to remember how it felt to be there.
