Sitting Curlew (Etching)

Etching of a curlew sitting on eggs, half-hidden amongst the long grasses and the moving shadows of its upland home. These iconic summer visitors still return annually to the Pennine moorlands and Dales but they are now red list endangered as a species, because they live so long before they start to breed and so few chicks survive. The image shows the long, downward curving beak and speckled plumage. The lines of the first etching are softened by the tones from aquatinting.
